Dr. Bruce C. Hill
Dr. Bruce C. Hill

Veterinarian

Education: Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine 1980

I am a 1980 graduate of Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine. My first year after graduation was spent at a mixed animal practice, Green Mountain Veterinary Hospital, in Manchester Center, VT. My next four years in practice were spent at the Mount Nittany Veterinary Hospital, also a mixed practice, in State College, PA. In 1985, DeWitt Animal Hospital, established in 1947, was purchased from Dr. James DeWitt. I had worked for Dr. DeWitt while attending the University of Rhode Island. When he decided to retire, he offered me the opportunity to return home to a well-respected and busy small animal practice. The practice moved from North Attleboro to its present location in Plainville, Massachusetts, in 1991. While I enjoyed traveling to the farms and helping the great, hardworking farmers, I do not miss the late-night, middle-of-winter calls. I have spent my career striving to be the best generalist I can be while meeting the challenges of running a small business and keeping up with an explosion of knowledge and a changing profession. I greatly value the long-term relationship and trust many clients have honored me with. The pandemic changed much for all of us, including how veterinary practices operate. After 44 years of practice, I have limited myself to one day a week seeing patients and one day doing procedures along with filling in when needed.

I am licensed in MA and RI, hold USDA accreditation, and am a member of the AVMA, MVMA, and RIVMA.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and family (including a grandson and three granddaughters), traveling (pre-COVID), and, when the weather is good, getting out on my HARLEY. My oldest son, Craig, and my daughter, Sarah, graduated from Veterinary School in the spring of 2013. Craig joined our team after earning his DVM degree. Sarah completed a one-year internship before joining our team in July 2014. Chris, Sarah’s twin brother who just happens to have married a veterinarian, is a software engineer for an online app called Sleeper.

During her high school and undergraduate years, Sarah worked at DeWitt Animal Hospital and the Oyster River Animal Hospital in NH. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire and worked for a year as an oncology technician at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. After being accepted to St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, she spent 3 years in Grenada, West Indies, and her final year at Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine to earn her DVM degree. Sarah completed a one-year internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in NJ, a 62-doctor, 24-hour referral hospital, before joining our team. She is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners and USDA USDA-accredited. Sarah enjoys family time (they have a young son and daughter) and travel. She and her husband, a nurse, and former Marine, spend much time hiking with their 3 German Shorthaired Pointers and two young children. She also has one cat named King Louis.

Diane Tetreault

Certified Veterinary Technician

Diane, a valued member of our technician team during the early 90’s returned to us part-time in 2005. She is a graduate of UMass Lowell and is a certified veterinary technician. She also has certification in laser therapy from AIMLA (American Institute of Medical Laser Applications). Diane grew up surrounded by pets – cats, dogs, rabbits, ducks, and a shaggy pony. Some of her favorite memories were silhouettes of bats in flight on summer nights, clicking and catching bugs above the trees, finding salamanders under leaf litter in early spring, or an opossum scurrying across the yard late at night. She took her first job at a veterinary clinic while in high school and has worked with small and large animals, exotics, and wildlife ever since.

Management

Jim McGrath
Jim McGrath

Practice Manager

Jim joined the DeWitt Animal Hospital Team in 1982 as a part-time kennel assistant. Never one to shy away from learning new tasks and excelling at them, he quickly became a valuable asset to the Hospital.

As our Practice Manager, he is the senior staff member as well as our Inventory Manager, Equipment troubleshooter, and more. It has been said that “Jim has been here forever” and “he knows everything.” Of course, he’ll be the first one to say, “No one knows everything.” However, with his years of experience performing various duties throughout the hospital, he is the one we call on frequently due to his extensive knowledge, as he can fill in many areas.

If you have a question, Jim almost always either has the answer or knows where to find it.
